November 22, 2011It seems that no matter what Port Lavaca (Texas) Calhoun athlete Daniel Brooks does, he can't escape the rumors. For months Brooks has gone a bit underground due to incessant chatter about the strength of his commitment to Oklahoma on Monday night.
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound all-purpose back has been a Sooner commitment since mid-March but eight months later still seems unable to shake off the idle conversations about his true intentions to head to Norman. With that in mind it's no surprise that Brooks was brief in his response to the rumors late Monday.
"No," Brooks responded when asked if there was any truth to the rumors of his change of commitment to TCU.
So things are set between he and Oklahoma?
Much of the reason the rumor was given credibility was his family's connection to the Horned Frogs. His parents are both alumni of the university and his father starred in track during his time on Hell's Half Acre. However, his father echoed his son's thoughts as well as expounding upon them.
"No that is not true! Daniel is an Oklahoma Sooner. A Calhoun football coach informed me that TCU had contact him and made an offer to Daniel. Daniel has also been offered by Navy, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma St.," the elder Brooks stated.
"Daniel is totally committed to the Oklahoma Sooners! He's having a great season with the (Calhoun) Sandcrabs and is getting a lot of attention from several schools.
"The Sooners are the only program that he's going to look at, visit, and be playing for. Daniel hasn't thought about, considered or even discussed changing his commitment, and will not be changing his commitment!"
And if that's not definitive enough, SoonerScoop.com was also contacted by one fellow visitor during Brooks' official visit on Nov. 5 for the Texas A&M game who heard about the rumors and felt compelled to offer some input.
"Brooks isn't going anywhere. He was all-OU on the trip. His dad was even asking everyone if they were having a good time," the source said.
Rumors aside, Brooks will prepare as his Calhoun (12-0) team gets ready for it's Texas 4A playoffs third round match-up with San Antonio area power Kerrville Tivy.
