Central Gwinnett LB close to an offer

One of the top inside linebacker prospects in the Peach State is Central Gwinnett's
href="http://gavarsity.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=45715">Bryce Smith. Smith is a very tough and hard-nosed player who consistently plays with an all-out, no-quit aggressive attitude on every snap. He is still waiting on his first offer, but a couple of schools are showing signs of making a move.

"I'm getting a lot of interest from Vanderbilt, Memphis and Auburn," said Smith. "I camped at Vanderbilt and Memphis this summer."
If there is a team that has the upper hand for Smith's services, it would probably be Vanderbilt. The Commodores have had their eye on the linebacker prospect for quite some time.
"Vanderbilt was the first team to ever talk to me," Smith said. "They contacted me during my sophomore year and they've stayed in touch. They came down during the season and then they came down during the off-season to talk to me. After that, Head Coach
href="http://gavarsity.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Year=2006&Sport=1&Coach=367">Bobby Johnson called me and told me he wanted me at their camp. He said that they were signing two-to-three linebackers and he was thinking of me as one of them."
Smith visited Vanderbilt and had a solid showing at their prospect camp.
"I went up there and I talked to coach
href="http://gavarsity.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Year=2006&Sport=1&Coach=369">Ted Cain and coach Johnson," said Smith. "They told me that I had a real good outing and they would like to get some senior video on me. They sent me a letter the other day saying they wanted me to come down to the campus and watch a few games."
The 6-foot-0, 230-pounder looked great at the Memphis camp. In fact, The Tigers could very well be the first team to make an offer.
"It went pretty well," Smith said. "I got there a couple of hours early so me and my family could go on a tour of the campus. They took us around and it was really nice. they told us that Memphis was a really large city and all that."
"They also told me that they run the exact same defense that we do. My recruiting coordinator, coach Kenny Ingram (Linebackers), has been telling me that I have a pretty good chance of playing there. He said that I would be a good fit in their defense. He said I did real well in the camp, and he would be in touch with me. He still sends me messages and he writes me letters. I think Memphis is showing me the most interest right now."
Smith registered 93 tackles, nine for loss and five sacks as a junior. Four schools are currently at the top of his list of favorites.
"Right now, I like Vanderbilt, Auburn, Memphis and Georgia is also still up there," he said.
